Happy New Year 2020

Happy New Year 2020. I hope that 2020 is a year full of adventures that make for warm, happy memories.

For ecological reasons, the city of Prague decided to put on a video mapping on the National Museum instead of the usual fireworks display over the Vltava River.

There were 3 shows. We went to the first one, which started at 18:15 We got there at 17:55, and the place was packed: Here we are waiting for the show to start:

It was a beautiful display, including artwork by many students. I would have loved to take more photos but it was a bit hard to do. Here is a short clip showing some of the video mapping:

Notice the guy in front of me? He was only one of the many people blocking my view with their cellphones. He recorded the whole show. I’m not sure how long it was but the last time I looked at the time on his video, it had been running for over 11 minutes.

Are you one of the people who records all events? What do you do with the recordings? Share them with friends or in a blog post like I am? Share them on social media. Save them to look through later to catch what you missed the first time while busy recording?

I have to admit that I had a hard time ignoring all the phones blocking my view as they recorded the event. It’s already hard enough to see with all the kids riding their parents’ shoulders. I can give that a pass because kids should get a chance to enjoy the event. But for goodness’s sake, if you’re constantly recording events, try to be considerate to the people behind you. I would have loved a single image during the show that didn’t include your phone, mister! But perhaps that’s just the age I live in…

Happy New Year 2020!

Congratulations to your city for the eco friendly approach to ushering in 2020.
Perhaps next time, try asking your cell phone blocker to give you 30 secs, 😁
