Virechana Ayurvedic Detox

Last updated on January 18, 2020

Today I finished my detox.  I was doing a 10 day ayurvedic treatment called Virechana.  It involved the cleansing and detoxification of the body through purgation.   The schedule was as follows:

Day 1 – 3: diet restriction and (ghee based) medicine consumption

Day 4 – 6: eat regular food, have daily ayurvedic body massage and steam

Day 7 – drink ghee based medicine, take one ayurvedic tablet.  This is the day when the real cleansing takes place.

Day 8 – 10: diet restriction.  I had to prepare Kichidi and eat it for all three meals.  Kichidi is similar to rice and peas but made with yellow split peas (mung dhal).

The ayurvedic doctor said that it may take a while for me to feel the health and vitality I expect after Virechana therapy. I’ve been feeling a bit tired lately and am hoping that a detox will help.

It was 13 degrees Celsius outside this morning.  My (one) rosebud got frostbite.  No complaints though.  I’ll take that weather over Canadian winter any day.
